As asked also on plecofanatics it would be great if you guy's could add some input into here as a few of you have already breed these.....
I.e
caves you used and sizes..
water parameter's
blackwater or not and if so how you achieved your blackwater..
what you feed your male and female..
and any other info you think will help..ie. the size's of your breeding pair....cheers curby Cool

Fish origin

Short description
Food and feeding
This fish does well on an algae based diet, sinking pellets or algae wafers must be provided. Vegetable matter should also be given in the form of spinach, zucchini, romaine lettuce and cucumber.

Origin
Found in South America; where it inhabits the rivers, streams and water ways.

Sexing
Males tend to have a fuller head of bristles, comparing fish of an equal age, the females will be slightly smaller.

Breeding
Soft, acidic black water must be provided for these fish to breed. The male will be the dominant parent, caring for the eggs and fry when they hatch. They can be difficult to get to spawn but not impossible. Adding almond leaves can help.

Lifespan
Expected life span is 14 years.

Short description
These are a peaceful but timid species. Hiding places must be provided in the tank. Bog wood is not essential in their diet, but it will provide the tannins in the water to keep these fish happy.

ok,i have a breeding colony of 12 adults i have them in a 3ft tank the tank setup is i use a canisterfilter and a internal filter for flow plus a uv sterilizer, theres clay logs in there thats what they breed in and heaps of driftwood and no gravel or sand the bottom of the tank is bare, another thing is to is peps have to be 18 months to 2 years old before they will breed, make sure you feed them well on blood worms algae wafers tablets vegies and to trigger them to spawn is leave the light off on the tank and if there mature enough they will spawn mine have being breeding non stop for the last 8 months plus water is ph 6.0 to 6.5 tds 0.5 cheers

PostSubject: Re: Breeding Tips for L182 Starlight's   Fri Nov 20, 2009 1:40 pm

I'm wanting to get our L182's to spawn and have them in a tank with a couple of caves for choice, a few endlers (have them in all our breeding tanks), box filter and double sponge filter. Tank size 24"x15"x12".

We've recently added 3 indian almond leaves and added water prepared with pre-soaked almond leaves in.

Would a small internal power filter help? As we know some plecs/BN's like fast water.

Any suggestions would be welcome Very Happy Very Happy
