High mitch-man, I've been told that really the only to get rid of snails (properly) is take your fish out of the tank and treat the tank with high doses of chlorine- retreat a week later to get any juvies that have hatched from eggs, the only draw back to this method is you'll end killing off your bio-organisms in the filters etc, so you'll have to spend the next month getting your tank back to normal to re-introduce your fish.
But it will work well.
cheers J

Rather than dousing with chemicals, get a goldie pleco (aka sunshine). I got one for my sister and within 2 nights she went from in excess of 1000 ramshorns to not a single one. Now she puts a few in each night to feed it. Far better as she doesn't have to take any fish out and there is no poisonous effects.

Funnily enough, these assasin snails are like hens teeth in OZ- I definately go with that option if you can find the snails.

Hi, clown loaches love snails, any size/type. They live well in my community tank. Can grow rather large but my 8yr old is only 15cm and seems to be staying at that size. I even keep a breeding tank full of snails and harvest them for the clownies! You're definitely better trying a natural solution than chemicals.

i'm not saying this works for everyone but if you take the fish out, then clean your tank outside, take all the water out and the snails will die because they have not water. while the tank drys out go search your plants for snails and kill them. it works for me every time so give it a try.
cheers cheers

um but of like me you have a 5 foot planted tank with 8 discus + lots of plecos this is not possible
So I dumped in some assassin snails and they've now laid eggs so give it a couple of months and i'll have babies and then an army of the AS Very Happy

Don't worry to much about assasin snails. They don't breed like other snails. We had a 2 footer tank that was snided with snails, as well as other tanks. Put in a couple of small assasin snails and you could literally see the unwanted snails running for the hills. Took a coupla weeks for them to clear it up, but they did Smile
