| High guys, I just thought I'd give this product a little write up: Sodium Meta-bisulphite or beer barrel sterilizer is a powder based product used to clean your brew kits and accesories, but when you add water to it , it starts to release a gas which is the important part you want to use( note: if your asthmatic use it in a well ventilated area or get a mate to do it for you as the gas will probably start an attack). Being a gas or vapour means it will get into all the nooks and crannies in your tank and bare wood and now I've even found out that Anubius will take a dose of it. It is also water soluble so you just need to blast it of to get rid of any residues Basically a damn good cleaner and sterillizer for your tanks and any new plants mounted to wood that I buy from now on will be getting this treatment to help kill of snails leaches any other bugs and parasites J

| AH Bugger , don't listen to the part about using it on plants, the sacrificial lamb (Anubias ) isn't really liking it - it's in a tank with no snails so no snails on the plant but it has taken on a real horrible yellow colour . I'll run an update if the plant makes it. J |

| Definately don't use this stuff on wood with plants, it took about 1 week for the poor plant to turn to muush. Great gear to clean up every thing else. J |

| From Wikipedia: Biomedical uses Related to the use of KMnO4 for water treatment, this salt is often employed as a specialized disinfectant for treating human and animal ailments. In histology, it is used to bleach melanin which obscures tissue detail. Potassium permanganate can also be used to differentiate amyloid AA from other types of amyloid pathologically deposited in body tissues. Incubation of fixed tissue with potassium permanganate will prevent amyloid AA from staining with congo red whereas other types of amyloid are unaffected. Permanganate washes were once used to treat gonorrhea and are still used to treat candidiasis. So...if your fish are....er... promiscuous ..then this is the product for you!! On a serious note...... You put the fish in it..literally like a flea dip for dogs and cats? |
