I had a pair of BE longfin albino fry sent. The weather was good and they arrived in pretty good shape. One had a partial tail fin I assumed was from shipping.
I lost them the second week I had them despite feeding them and keeping stress at a minimum. My PH might have been too high for them at 8.2. No nitrites, no nitrates. Tank was cycled. My question is how fragile are longfin fry? They never really ate too well. I had zucchini, a bit of algae wafer for them. They were alone in an 18 gallon tall with a cave. I feel so badly for losing them. I thought I had everything covered, apparently not.

High _carla_, when you say "FRY" how big are you talking about ?
I saw some shockingly small ABN in the shop today and apparently that was from a wholesaler/distributer.
How bad was the tail fin on the "partially" broken fish? Completely broken or did it look like it was never there to start with?
Sounds like you followed the ideas with feeding, can't really comment on the PH( I don't really test my water)
It does just seem a real turd that you lost your new fish.

Sorry about your loss, I recently have 2 x longfin fry circ 1.25 inch in length and lost them both within 2 weeks, cannot really explain it either. Tank perams all fine, looked to be heathly and eating a bit one day gone the next
sucks really
now decided any further fry I want are to be circ 1.5 inch + unless I know others who have purchased said fry and they have survived

No Nitrates for me is just a trace (I should have been clearer) but my test kit is getting old, not so trustworthy. They died before I could get a new kit. The snails in there are doing fine.
They were 1 inch, barely. The tail fin was broken. I found the other part in the bag. They were packed well with a heat pack.
I'm sorry for the loss of fry like I had. It's interesting that someone else lost fry as well. I won't buy fry again unless it's local and I will pay more for adults from now on if I have a choice.
I hated to lose them.

Carla if I was closer I would give you a couple of albino longfins, I have some reaching about 2 inches. i don't sell mine less than 1 1/2 inch as when they are smaller they stress more and more apt to loose them.
