| I have recently brought my first bristlenose Pleco, he is a baby, around 4cm. I want to buy another one as a mate for him/her but have no idea if he is male or female.
Would like to have a pair, one of each. What do I do? How can I sex them?
Also have seen a Tiger Pleco in my local shop, would these two pleco's get on ok?
Thanks,
Matilda |

Hi matilda and thanks for posting.... At 4cm's its going to be hard to sex , you will have to wait untill your bn starts to hit the 2 inch mark unless it becomes really apperent that bristle's are forming up the snout and then you will have a male..... The only way to get a solid pair is to buy them fully mature or buy maybe 5 BN's at the 4cm mark and grow them on...... All plec's are generally peacefull and im sure a bn will get on just fine with a tiger as long as you provide a nice space between them with there own cave's...
good luck and hope to see more post's from you soon........

| Ok thank you. Am I right in thinking only the males have the bristles then?
What is your profile pic of by the way? I can't work it out? Is it a mask with sharp teeth? |

| High MatildaRose, one of the other members "Zane" had a ripper of a suggestion for sexing little B/N. If you grab your fish out of the water and feel around the top of its nose and head ,if its soft and squishy probably male, if its rough and firm probably female . I can't say I've validated this theory but it's something else you could try. J
