PostSubject: Breeding brown long fin bn   Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:06 pm

Hey guys I think i need some help. I have a 15 L aquarium and i have a pair of brown long fin bn. The male is from yesterday in the aquarium and now i received a female which is gestant which looks like she wants to make love :o . The problem is that the ph and gh are too high to breed them as I know. ph = 8 and gh = 20 - 25 degrees. Do someone have any idea. Is possible to grow the fryes??? Thank you all!!

Hi,to be quite honest a 15 litre aquarium is way to small for a pair of bristlenoses never mind their fry aswell. What size is the tank?

PostSubject: tank size    Mon Nov 28, 2011 7:56 pm

15 8 10 in inches....i just asked because it looks like they love each other. At my home I have a 90 L aquariu this one is only to keep the fishes which i'm taking from Constanta. My hometown is Mangalia(about 45 km distance). I study here in Constanta. I will try to get a bigger aquarium from a friend. But is any posibility to breed them and to not loose the fyes?? thank you

With such a high pH it's unlikely they will breed but if they did the eggs will not be viable. I think that the higher the pH gets the thicker the eggs are and the fry can not hatch and this causes them to die inside the egg.

Really you need at the minimum a 60 L tank for breeding and to raise a the fry to about 3 cms at which time they would really need more space or moving on.

What do you mean by "stuck to the column" Question and were these born in the 15L tank.

Do you mean they still had their egg sac or is it something else.

yes they looked like a female after breeding but worse. After a week since the yolk sac was absorbed they started to have this problems.
I breeded them many times in diferent aquariums. this is not for breeding but this is the posibility in this moment. I breeded them in 145 L , 90L, 50L...etc..

before they finish there yolk sac try introduce a little food just so they get used to it...little bit of cucumber etc.....

also somthing to have a look for.... do you have a bacterial infection in the fishtank... do any of the other have long stingy poo.....

my guess would be that either it was food related or bacteria related......

make sure theres food out for em, keep an eye on fish poo and check the tank levels....

the small the tank the less it takes to dirty it up.....

I know people who have had bn breed in high ph water. Usually they get put in African cichlid tanks as clean up crew. When they get big enough they breed wherever they can find a good spot. Now I think the tank is too small for fry unless you are going to grow them in a bigger tank. These fry deaths as stated above sound like either starvation or bacterial infection.

Are you putting food in for the fry to feed on once they come out of the cave? If so,what food?

Hmmm if they are getting plenty of food then I'd say it would be a bacterial infection.

Do you have any idea what kind of bacteria and how to treat the fishes?
