currently i have a pair of breeding bristlenose plecs in a 90 litre tank. i was concerned this was not enough space and have bought a 4 foot 130 litre aquarium to replace it.

now i am wondering what would be the best alternative to grow the babies before re homing them. is there enough space in the 4 foot tank with mum and dad, or shall i use the 90 litres for them?

I personally would use the smaller tank to grow them out. If the fry are the only ones in the tank you can feed them all they will eat and do more water changes without the bioload of the parents.

If it was me I would leave the pair were they are and use the 4ft as a grow out tank. When the male is fanning eggs move him the cave and eggs to the grow out tank and after the fry are released you can remove the male and his cave or leave him to recover for a bit before putting him back.

I am imagining that the 90 litre is fully set up with plants etc, using your new 4ft tank as a grow out tank means you can set it up minimally with a few bits of bogwood so when the time comes to catch the fry you do not have to worry about trashing the tank.

yeah, i would go like Jim said with the small tank to breed in and the larger tank to grow out in. you can more easily manipulate the water parameters in the small tank and the larger volume of the 4ft will speed up the fry's growth. Most breeders i know use 4ft grow out tanks

Thank you everyone. I take it the smaller tank is suitable for 2 adult bristlenoses? i was worried it was small..

i have the new tank now and have cleaned it up, i need to wait for 6 weeks now whilst i cycle the new filter in my existing tank.... :roll:
