Hi, I have just got a male and female pair of bristlenoses. They came with a large tank I bought from ebay for my oscar pair and sailfin gibby. They are now settling into their new home in my community tank. Its a juwel delta 150l corner tank. I am noticing though that they are very nervous about any type of movement by the tank, they hide all day and only come out at night to eat. Could this be due to the tank they were in before, it was a 340l planted tank with 3 pieces of bogwood and no caves to speak of

Hi and Welcome to the forum. Each Bn can have quite different personalites which makes them very addictive to keep.!! I have 5 in my main tank 3 of which are quite happy to sit out while you are there and moving about yet the other two (the two largest) are a bit more nervous and scatter as soon as there is any movement near the tank. One of these used to be fine and only started acting this way after the other was introduced and did it.. Nedless to say you will enjoy keeping them and I doubt very much that they will be your only two in a years time..... Jon

Hi, cheers thanks for that. I have previously kept a lone male that was very bold and active, always out but I had to rehome my fish when I had to shut down my tank to make a big house move. When I set it back up again I couldn't find any BN so settled on a 2in sailfin gibby, that was 18months ago and he now measures 10in with a very striking sailfin. The plan was always to grow him on to share a tank with my pair of 12in oscars. He now more than holds his own in the tank with them I was then going to get some juvi BN for my community tank in the hope of getting a pair, it was just sheer luck that the tank I bought already housed a pair I thought they were common BN when I first got them but on the one and only time the female came out while the light was on she has a lovely kind of olive green colour to her so I'm not sure now, if by some miracle I can get some pics I will post them

Hi Kim and welcome to Britlenoseworld. Hope you can get some photos, some of the more uncommon ones can be more nocturnal and take longer to settle in a new tank.

Hi, thanks for that, I managed to get a pic of her, its not great but you can make out some of her markings. How do I upload it in a post? The last couple of nights they have both ventured out a bit more when the lights are off, helped by some tasty cucumber I have noticed the edge of her lips that you can see when she is sat on the gravel is white
