| hi guys the canister filter i have needs the inlet pipe cleaned twice a week. it clogs up with green stringy algae at the valve on the canister. how can i stop it, the flow drops to bout 1/4 of the normal rate in 2 to 3 days, when i do my water changes i have to undo the hose and clean it out. do i need to get a new filter or is there a simple remedy. the tank doesnt have an algae problem anywhere else, tank isnt in direct sunlight and i put the light on probably every 2 days for 3-4 hrs at a time. i tested the water params today and all is good, nitrate's were up to 5-10 parts per mill. im stumped as to what problem could be. |

| How much water does yout tank hold and how much water does your filter filter per hour.
It could be a design fault or the filtration per hour is insufficient.

| is it brown or green stringy stuff? DO you feed zuchinni? I found when i was feeding zuchinni that the filters could get clogged to the point of stopping within a few days. I switched to cucumber and it stopped. THe sunsun brand is the same as proaqua. I have that filter you were looking at big brother, the 2200l/h canister with UV and it is incharge of my most prized tank...my grow out tank which has easily $500 worth of fish at a minimum. I did have some troubles with it when it was with the zuchinni, and the impeller can be a bit hard to get to without ironman suppliments but its a good unit and the UV is a godsend! and they are cheap too. I would always suggest getting a bigger one though. Whatever one you are thinking of, get the bigger one bristlenose love a bit of flow and you can always reduce it with a spray bar. _________________ Doug's Bristlenose eBook - The number one source of Bristlenose information and the most detailed breeding guide avaliable 3rd edition OUT NOW!!! | Yes I feed zucchini. I can only fit 440 mm in the cabinet. It has to fit inside or say goodbye to the tank. I'll try them on cucumber. |

| The filter is a hailea hf150 800 lt/hr. I took the intake hose off and cleaned it out completely. The flow has improved greatly. I'll keep an eye on it. If I get a new filter will I have the same probs? |
