Glad you enjoyed that, yep you got it right, but I don't go by the anal fin as that can be deceiving. Look at the foreheads. If you really look closely at it you can tell the males are more pronounced. You should also be able to see the males gondapodim (sp), not quite with it this morning. Been busy moving some fish to make room for more. Plus my angels decided to spawn today so I need to move those eggs somewhere.

cheers I thought the forehead might also be another clue, just like moorii and frontosa
but also thought that was a big cichlid thing.
So what would you guess from my last foto :bounce: :bounce: .
Congrats on the Angel spawn aswell- have much luck with them? A buddy of mine gets them to
spawn no probs, but the fry stage just hammers him- he has managed to get a few to small fish
size (about the size of a 10 cent piece)
cheers J

In that picture, it looks to be the female in front, but its hard to tell as the other is somewhat younger. I would give it a little more time to get more color and such to it. then take another pic of them together.

The angels I have a hard time with the parents eating the eggs after 24 hours. I am thinking of taking the leaf they are on and putting them in one of the shrimp tanks, but if I put my hand in there she hits pretty hard.

I have also been working on getting my sturisoma fry to make it past a couple of months. They are a hard fish to raise from hatch. Then Monday I start setting up my new show tank. So its been a pretty busy time. Along with all the baby bristlenose I have been trying to separate into different growout tanks.

Thanx for the help susankat55( allthough contrary to what everyone else suggested)
I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they spawn- then I'll know if I have a pair.
Wicked to hear that your spawning whiptails aswell- how hard are they to tell sexes apart?
I'm sure you'll get your head around getting the little whips to grow on - they would
be a lot like Angel fish fry needing very clean water when they are young( I'm only guessing)
cheers J

Actually the whiptails are the opposite of angels. You don't change the water to often as you have to keep the walls of the tank kind of mucky and preferably green water for them to feed. Had counted 11 the other day, but today haven't seen any and don't know if they are on the wood or if they have survived, They can be very hard to get past a month of age. Once that happens they do ok.

Sexing they are pretty hard to tell for me. You should be able to see some whiskers on the sides near the gill plates. But my eyes make it hard to see them.
