| Its male I think. They breed very similar to blue rams I am told and like an elevated rock to spawn on. Elevated to its not so close to the floor where fungas can get the eggs faster. |

| I have two of these and after doing some looking around the internet found some good information on cichlid forum profiles page, there is a good species article that gives a good indication on how to sex them, apparently the males have longer and more pointed dorsal fins, so looking at your photograph i would say its a male. I think i have a pair but no luck yet on spawning, they are in with my geophagus aereos, neon rainbows and get along great with everything. All in all a good cichlid all round. |

| Thanx for the advice guys, sensible idea about the rock off of the ground- thanx Brengun . I've also heard the idea about the longer fins- but- have also been told by the owner of "Aggies" who knows his stuff fairly well, a better guess is by the front dorsal rays : the first 1,2,3 should be really tall to start with and then flow through , but the 2nd pic looks to stagger up for the first 3 rays Where as this guy is pretty small but the 1st ray is short and the next lot are tall similar hights. This guy's a cool little fish , as soon as put him in tank he took on heaps of black colours and give all the rest of the fish a full gill display as he slowly took the tank over. Cheers J |

| High guys , now I think I have a pair of Bolivians + a little male( the fourth little guy was found cactus with a pepp trying to hide the fact) note the little extension near the bum on the little fish, I've read most female fish have this visible when spawning but this one shows it off all the time. | Never kept severums , so can't give you an idea on temperament - but have read that they breed like crazy. Microgeophagus altispinosis- Bollivian butterfly, yup it's a dwarf cichlid , a dwarf geophagus if I'm reading it correctly. Also from south america J

| They have spawned a few times, but the angels keep that under control. So no fry. Here is one of my males showing off, See if you can pick out the female out of these three, hint! there is only one female. |

| Thanx susankat55 for making a bit of a sport out of it, I've been looking at my last pic and noticed the anal fin is big and round on the male , where as who I think is the female is more tappered - so saying that I'd guess this one is the female What would you guess from my last foto? J
