hi there was just wondering does any body own any of these as the l144 longfins look stunning cant Imagen how nice super red long fins would be if not how would you be able to create them

I have not heard of any super red long fin yet, but here in the US any super red is difficult to come by, there are a few on the east coast that I am aware of but that's it, so those in Europe may have a better idea if any are out there.
As to how to create them, it would be a multiple step process. Long fin seems to be a dominant trait. (notice I said seems) I have no idea whatsoever how the red is inherited but it's probably recessive to brown. If I wanted to put the time into it, and it would take a lot of time and a lot of babies, I would cross a super red with a long fin, I don't think the color of the long fin really matters. The fry would probably be browns with hopefully and mix of long and short fins. I would then take any long fin browns from this batch of fry and breed them back to a super reds. You might start to get a few red long fin here, but if not, I would again keep the long fin fry to breed back to super red. I would probably do this with several unrelated pairs so that when I finally started to get a few red long fin they would not all be closely related.

I've not seen any yet, but You will need deep pockets if any do turn up, last pair of L144 LF's went for £67 on ebay I'd imagine reds will be even dearer.

cheers people thought i would get your views its just i have a pair of sexed super reds i grown on and was wondering if there was any thing i could do to get this fish if i hypothetically got them through breeding as they didnt cost me any thing you would see me selling them for silly money like these 144 longfins

The super reds came from the albino morph, not the marble (calico) morph like it is commonly assumed. The super red is an extention of the pinkish tinge that people see on some albinos, particually along the fins and tail. i would suspect that super red longfins are not common, or even around as corsses will result in fry with limited red colouration and it would take several generations of inbreeding to get them back to the red colour we all know.

would be an interesting project for someone. Im working on something else atm so I'll leave that to you guys

If super reds did indeed come from the albino morph, and anybody wants to put in the years and tank space to try this red long fin project then the color of the long fin would make a difference, albino would be the way to go. It would also be the way to go for outcrossing for genetic diversity in a super red line if unrelated super reds could not be obtained. However, I imagine it would have to be the same type of albino that the super red was originally derived from, I don't believe the "other" type of albino would do. Don't suppose you know which type of albino it was eh Doug?

Im a big longfin fan so it would be great if they would cross...
I have brown and albino longfins and L144 longfins...
Would love some calico longfins too but I think a superred one would really be the prize!
