PostSubject: Platydoras costatus   Tue Mar 15, 2011 10:33 am

I thought I'd put this on here first, although not a BN but maybe they would appeal to a BNer.

I have two Platydoras costatus which I am going to give to my LFS unless anyone here wants them. I bought them about 4 cm long on recommendation that they would rid my tank of snails. This they did very effectively but now one is about 14cms and the other a bit less. This is a guesstimate from just watching them in the tank. I have had them for about three years and they are quite plump fish and eating well. They are not too shy and come out for food but really need a bigger space than I have.

Would anyone like them for a bigger tank than mine?

It will have to be a handover as I don't have posting facilites.

Here are some pictures.

would have taken them for the 4ft tank if you had been closer.

I am sure you may be able to pass them on, they look a fine species Smile

saw some of these in Rainbow at Mexborough in South Yorkshire today.

lovely little fish at a young age, the owner was too busy to ask any questions about them. Not sure if people will realise how big they grow?

what do they eat by the way?

They come out of their holey places and pick up mouthfuls of tiny catfish pellets or one or two JBL Nove Pleco chips at feeding time.

I don't know how large they grow but may be they've been restricted by the size of the tank. The LFS didn't offer any advice about this and they were only sold as sail eaters.

I've just been reading about them here

Perhaps my tank isn't too small for them? Perhaps they have eaten all the ancistrus babies? Hmmm
