Hi All

Came home from work last friday to find all 3 of my tanks containing whitespot, i could'nt believe it, normally my tanks are problem free and everyone is happily buzzing around doing thier thing.My main tank has it worst at the moment, my Geophagus Aereos are flicking in the sand like mad and everyone looks decidedly sick, tank 2 contains bristlenose fry and a male ranunculus, tank 3 albino bristlenose fry and a female ranunculus, both these tanks look like the begining of whitespot with the ranunculus having a dusting of spots.I know its weird that all 3 tanks have it at the same time but I've been having a change around and have probably transferred the whitespot from tank to tank before spotting it.I,m treating with WS3 but have reduced the dose to half and increased the temp in all tanks.
Is halving the dose OK or can I do full dose, I,m a little reluctant to full dose because of the fry.When would you do a waterchange, I usually do 30% per week, would you leave it a couple of weeks?.

Tank 2 - approx 50 bristlenose fry, L034

Tank 2 - approx 15 albino bristlenose fry, L034

Thanks for the reply curby unfortunately i lost both ranunculus and about 8 bristlenose fry, the big tank seems to be over the worst and the smaller ones appear to be getting better.
I hate losing good fish to something stupid such as whitespot

Damn, sorry to hear you lost some good fish. We've just been struck with it, one of the female endlers gave birth and was stressed and I think this brought it on

We moved her as she was covered in it, and she has since died, however, the rest of the tank are looking ok and we're adding the heater today at water change time, together with the 2nd dose of medication. Fingers crossed we don't lose any more. This is the first time we've had white spot in 3 years of fish keeping! Other than some fish we bought that arrived with it, and fortunately we always quarantine <phew>

Fortunately we sterilise all the nets before using in a different tank (cheap baby bottle steriliser in a bucket) and fortunately I think it's that, that has helped to stop cross contamination.

I'm also considering buying another UV internal filter which we already have in the community tank, but a smaller version so we can use it if it ever is needed, as it kills the white spot in one of it's stages.

Since the original outbreak i have lost all my bristlenose fry :cry: ( approx 50) in my main fry tank, I dont know if it was the WS3 that caused their demise, but they never seemed to recover fully,even though there was no sign of whitespot anymore. Everyday I came home from work another 10 or so had died, they were just motionless on the bottom and you didnt know they were dead until you attempted to move them, there was no damage to the bodies but they did feel quite "slimy" when i removed them.
I'm getting a little paranoid now, as soon as i get in I'm straight to the remaining tank of fry scanning for any that appear motionless!.
Lost so many little un's but I still have 13 albino fry, 5 common fry (from an earlier brood) and 4 L144 fry, so everythings not too bad.

On another note with the whitespot.

I've just won an internal filter with UV which will be my spare for any more occurances of the dreaded thing. And being as it's not specifically to act as a filter, but to irradicate any undesirables, less that £11 delivered I am more than delighted

Feel even better today, just popped into my LFS and guess what!, they have a rather nice male ( i think !) ranunculus for £15

The Eagle ( or ranunculus!) has landed, right into my tank!, and looks pretty settled already, now to find another.
