| Where i live on the coast there is always bits of driftwood being washed up on the tide line. My question is can i use it?
I was thinking of soaking it in a large bucket outside for a couple of weeks with a load of carbon to soak up any nasties.
What is the concensus? |

| I would be a bit concerned about getting all the salt out... I have done this with seashells but thats a lot different Im sure some of the other guys and gals will know lots more! |

| I've done it with driftwood. Soaked it outside for a few days in rainwater then put it in the tank- been there 6 months with no problems at all |

| yeah, my concern would also be for the salts in the wood. I would think that if you soaked it for a while, maybe 2 weeks you should be ok. That might be overkill as Parkadge said but better safe than sorry. _________________ Doug's Bristlenose eBook - The number one source of Bristlenose information and the most detailed breeding guide avaliable 3rd edition OUT NOW!!! | Check the density of the wood Lots of salt that you get with wood of the coast seems to hollow out the integrity of the wood, eg : if you burn the drift wood of the beach -watch how quick it burns compared to hardwood from a freshwater system. There's no point putting wood in your tank if it's going to rot in 12 months and yup wash the hell out of it . J |
