| hi everyone im just woundering if you can keep shrimp and bristlenose plecs in the same tank together ?
after a bit more colour and stuff at the bottom of my tank and fort shrimp might be a good idea
all that i have in the tank is bristlenose plecs and discus |

| Should be fine, Bristlenose only feed on things that dont move in my experience, they probably won't bother trying to catch shrimp.

id imagine the discus wouldnt bother them either as they keep to themselfs |

| I have heard of people keeping some of the larger shrimps, Amano and some of the larger Ghost, in planted tanks but I think the ususal opion is it's not a good idea.
Most shrimps will not survive for any length of time at the temperatures Discus are normally kept in. Shrimps will be vulnerable during or just after a moult.

| After seeking advice from Doug in the past about Cherry shrimps. I bought a small group of about 25-30 individuals, most were tiny. Now i have at anytime at least 15 - 20 adult females full off eggs. Everywhere you look in my main tank there are many little pairs of 'hands' browsing the plants, driftwood and substrate. The bristlenoses tollerate them and so do the clown plecos i have. I have witnessed one of my adult BN's feeding on algae wafers with shrimps crawling over him just getting on with the important task of eating.
I do have to say though if there is plenty of food unless you put something in the tank that would eat them it doesnt seem like there would be an easy way of removing them all without a complete shutdown.
I often find them living inside my external filter aswell so they are pretty hardy. |
