My bristlenose have produced their first babies. I have 2 females and 1 male common, I think. The females are both about 3 in (7.5cm) and the male is about 2in (5cm). I thought they would be bigger before breeding. Both females visit his "cave" one right after the other. The babies are about 1cm. The male uses a leg of my ceramic driftwood as his cave.

They are in a community tank.

hrmmm, quite a few things in there that would love to snack on a baby fish, esspecially those angels and the big featherfin, i know my featherfin eats all my little fish, damn Felix has developed quite a taste for neons

Good work on the spawn though. always a good sign that the water is pretty good and your doing something right

Congrats on the spawn, I imagine the crabs would have crabbed as many fry as they could have...have to agree with Doug, the rest of the tank mates would like to have a yummy fry snack too. Bit of a shame, but least you know they will spawn, might be time for their own tank, if you want to keep the fry next time, which will not be long, once they start ...the flood gates open... Awesome you have seen one scurrying about the tank still..It may just make it...

I have friends who have both lost fry to angels and feathers so would support all the above advice, may be good the tank is so big
and the fish dont meet that much, but if they do start to go a miss then as recommended may be time for a tank of their own.

otherwise you have a gourmet snack for them...lol...

it is strange for them to breed so young, may be they had too much clam food or viagra...lol.. or if the females are new could they have been laiden already.... doubt it..

Inch long huh! thts good! ususlly by that stage they are smart enough to avoid most of the predators, tho i still wouldn't throw it in a tank of convicts

Are they all about the same size? if not then they may be the product of two seperate spawns.

Almost a year and a few hundred babies later...

Little Daddy never grew over 2.5 inches. his last batch of babies included about 10 albinos. The babies have also not grown over 2-2.5 inches. Only one female offspring reached 3 inches. I think I have a new dwarf variety.
