| that last photo is an interesting one. Its not actually a longfin, but it is a longer fin than normal. You find these evry now and again when longfins and shrotfins are crossed.
nice looking fish tho _________________ Doug's Bristlenose eBook - The number one source of Bristlenose information and the most detailed breeding guide avaliable 3rd edition OUT NOW!!! LOADS OF ADDITION INFORMATION, PICS, DIAGRAMS AND BRISTLENOSE GOODNESS

| no worries, i love these medium fin bristlenose. Sometimes the longfins are a bit much, these guys are a happy, functional medium. _________________ Doug's Bristlenose eBook - The number one source of Bristlenose information and the most detailed breeding guide avaliable 3rd edition OUT NOW!!! I wouldn't have considered medium fins even existing, say you crossed a homozygous longfin and a Homozygous shortfin, wouldn't you get all longfins because the longfin trait is dominant?? |

The genotypes of bristlenose is far from understood. There are those out there who think that you are correct, but others believe that the shortfin is dominat over the longfin. I believe that there is more at play here than one gene. and if it is one gene then there is def more than just the two alleles (longifn, shortfin). Currently, my data shows that either way is an option as i dont have the cash to get the genotypes of the parents done and looking at the offspring is basically educated guess work.
All that aside, there def is a medium fin morph, though it is rare, much rarer than the longfin or the shortfin. but it is there. if this is due to their being a third allele or an outside process acting on a longfin to retard the fin growth, or something promoting fin growth in a shortfin is anyones guess at the moment._________________ Doug's Bristlenose eBook - The number one source of Bristlenose information and the most detailed breeding guide avaliable 3rd edition OUT NOW!!!
