well im moving house soon and will be taking my tanks with me , my plan is to move fish from one tank into the other. then move the tank to new house also taking as much water with me as i can.get the tank up and running then put fish back in the following day , then move the other tank was wondering if anyone had any tips to help me out thanks colin.

keep the fish in the dark during transport to minimise stress. save a much water as you can and get them in as qucikly as you can. write a list of ev everything you need to take with you and make sure you have planned ahead.

Yeah, the trick is to plan ahead and know who is going where at what time. I grabbed a heap of buckets from my lab, but im sure you could get some of mates, to transport the water in.

The worst thing is all the crud from the bottom of the tank gets stired up so the water that is in the tank looks horrid for a few days. I bought myself a few extra, el cheepo power fitlers just to clear the water as fast as possible. They got colged ever hour or so!!!

Other than that kepp them in the dark, if its a long drive then make sure you give the water a good bubble before you go with an airstone to ensure there is lots of O2 in there for them. I found that my BN traveled really well actually. i even had a male on eggs at the time who didn't even boot them! the tricky fish are the larger ones. anything the size of a discus or bigger starts to use the O2 in the water really fast when stressed so keep that in mind

Oh, and remember that fish tanks are very VERY heavy! take as much out as you can including gravel etc. lift with your legs and get as many people to help as possible. many hands make light work

How long of a drive is it? Depending on the size of the tanks I've always left around 4-5 inches or 10-12 cm of water in the tank. I places a garbage bag over the top and replaced the cover to keep down the amount of water that could possibly splash out.

As far as O2 in the buckets, see if you can find a car converter.

Something similiar to these to run your air stones in the buckets for the move. Can also be used to run a heater.
