| My mum just alerted me to a bristlenose of mine being start white down one side of her body. I fished her out and her fins are torn and she is indeed white down the side, it looks like she's been badly barbed, and I think she may have been blinded in one eye. She appears active, wiggling around in the jug she's in for the moment, but she's clearly not well. What should I do? Pics: rest of them here: http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll196/ritishique/ I think I'm going to have to consider selling/passing on a few of these l59s. They were originally sold to me as l213 If anyones interested PM me! |

| This doesnt look good......... Have you got a spair hospital tank??? If so i would put it in there and treat as if it was infected, this should help repair the fish... I really dont like the looks of the greyish whiteness... Good Luck... _________________ Dont Forget to hit the AquaRank Logo at the top of the forum page it looks just like this............ | She died last night, wasn't a surprise really :/ I did place her in my hospital tank, she seemed fine, but obviously not! | Quote: | if this was one of mine first thing i would do is check the water. if its all ok then i would treat with myxazin doesnt look like its been attacked from the pics. |
Water was checked using API masters kit, no problems at all! And I know the photos are crap, camera phone, but I could see puncture wounds and scrapes, which definatly looked like a barbing. The torn and battered fins were a big indication of such. I dont keep any other potentially aggressive fish, the only ones that could have done that damage would have been the plecs. Unless I have a killer Khuli on the loose >__>; I've had this happen before, a quite a while back, the white damage and the really torn fins, and back then I though it was my red tailed shark. Now I know better D:
Honestly, I think these guys need to move to a bigger tank. There isn't enough space for them to make proper terrortorys I reckon. I got a bit plec happy when I was still a noob and had no idea >___> I'll ashamedly admit that. |

| Sorry to hear about your fish. Nothing to be ashamed about. You know now at least. Casual aquarists would have just flushed the fish without trying to figure out what had happened. I completely understand about feeling bad. Tell your Mom you would like to have a nice 1136 liter tank just because she loves you . Huge footprint and lots of territory! I wish I had could get one....the wife would kill me though  |

| Yeah, unfortunately the way most people learn about fish keeping is through a crash course when everything starts to go wrong. You'd cringe at some of the stuff I kept in tanks too small D: Thankfully I wised up, and passed them onto friends and relatives with big enough tanks before it started to become a problem. I really wish more LFS would be more helpful, but I guess it's about profit alot of the time :c
And lol, as much as I would drool over that, she nags me enough about having what I do xD |

| bad luck buddy Its often hard to see the puncture wounds on the fish so if you could spot them then you are doing well. And def dont feel bad. IMO its the fish shops that should feel bad, selling fish to people that they know wont go in their tanks or will outgrow them. I always check the tanks that my fry are going into and advise people on how to go, even if it means a reduced sale. _________________ Doug's Bristlenose eBook - The number one source of Bristlenose information and the most detailed breeding guide avaliable 3rd edition OUT NOW!!! | Sorry to hear that. I am always gutted to lose any Creature. One of my apple snails decicded to go on a field trip the other day . unfortuatly it decided to cross the doorway and got squished. I felt so guilty for not noticing him there. |
