As anybody had any problems with the so called problem of popeye..ie large eyes...

My biggest female L182 seems to have this problem.
she also looks very large especially around her poop area.......

There used to be a time when she would make a play for my male on a regular basis but for the last 8 weeks she has just sat under a slate and hasnt moved much...she seems very dipressed......

I made a 40% water change and did a 3 day treatment of ESHA 2000 and now 2 days after treatment she still seems not so well with the large eye's still visable???

Iam now thinking that i may be over stocked slightly and this may be causing her to be stressed,,,

In the tank i have 3 males and 4 females with 2 smaller females growing on...aswell as about 100+ fry swimming around.....

the tank they are in is a good 180 litres........

Nitrites are perfect and sp is PH at around 7.2..............

no other plec is showing any symtoms and are all perfectly healthy...........

Any Ideas??????????

I have not had this problem with my BN, but I did have a female molly with it once. Like your fish, only one eye was affected, and initially because of that I hoped it was due to injury. The eye would seem to get a bit better, then bulge out again. In the end I culled her out thinking it most likely indicated some internal infection like TB, and while I do not treat any life lightly, she was not worth the possibility of putting the rest of the tank at risk of exposure/infection.
My fish was a dime a dozen molly, not an L182, and I am not suggesting you cull your fish, but do you have a quarantine tank to move her too? The fact that your fish seems depressed and has swellings in other areas may indicate some kind of internal infection or tumors. It is possible that the pressure in the eye could build to bursting and if an infection was involved you would not want the bacteria released into your tank water. (Yes, I always jump to the worst case scenario, that way if I'm wrong no harm done and if it happens I'm prepared.)
I have not used it myself, but others have reported some success in reducing the fluid build up with Epsom salt added to the water at 1TB/5 gal. for at least 3 days. Not sure if you would have to adjust that amount for BN. This would of course only be treating the symptom and not the cause.

ive never used esha products so i cannot say if they are any good i would go for myxazin p its good stuff and does work on pop eye it is a good broad spectrum medication
500ml goes a long way and for £17 its good value and you would only need 5ml a day for a 180 ltr tank.

Likewise, i have never had popeye in a BN but i have recently saved my male german blue ram from it. Just the same, popped eye on the left side. I treated the tank with half dose of multi-cure for a week and upped the water changes. Effect was a mini cycle but a healthy fish, just dealt with the cycle with chemicals til it was done.
