| Curses, it has happened again. I had to be away for 5 wks and upon my return, one of the baby L144 I had gotten just before I was called away had red streaks on it's body, I presume septicemia. Tank water tested fine and it was just the one, so who knows why..... it's just that every single time I have to be away I come home to losses.
I would really like to end or at least minimize this so what do all of you out there do when you have to be away from your tanks? I will welcome any and all ideas especially as I have to be gone again this summer for 3 weeks.
Thanks, Amber |

| I do have someone look after them, and I leave detailed written instructions, nevertheless it's always a mess when I return. This time was actually the best, only one fish affected and the fish is still alive, but I am not hopeful... |

| I do not have a problem, I breed my Discus and BN's and my dad breeds Angels so we have an agreement we each look after each others when on holiday |

| My bn had septicemia once caused by not enough gravel vacuming....
I would imagine after 5 weeks the bottom would have quite a build up...... _________________ Dont Forget to hit the AquaRank Logo at the top of the forum page it looks just like this.VVV........... | yes. in this case that is a likely cause. Sigh. The tanks did get water changes during my absence, but probably not enough gravel vacuuming.
I did loose that L144 unfortunately. There is another, an albino adult female that may be a bit more red on the underside than usual. I'm not entirely sure, but I am suspicious and after that L144 I am really keeping an eye on her. I noticed on another posting that you had cured your BN of the septicemia, would you mind sharing what you did?
Thanks, Amber |

| I did about a 65% water change..(cold water).... i made sure all the gravel was clean digging deep...hence why i took 65% of the water out... once the tank had settled i carried out a 3 day medicine course with ESHA 2000, it turns the water red.... everybody uses melafix and pimafix but i always use ESHA products...i never loose fish when using esha 2000.. You can buy esha 2000 off ebay....its worth every penny.... after 1-2 weeks my bn was cured against all odds, i was even told to put him in the freezer because his cepticemia was that bad... He was my first BN and ive still got him today.... _________________ Dont Forget to hit the AquaRank Logo at the top of the forum page it looks just like this.VVV...........
