I'm probably being a total muppet - but my LFS has some gorgeous *male* Orange Spot BN's - probably 3 cm long with clear "antlers" so looks like my second ancistrus will be here later this week.

I read the species as Ancistrus sp rio ucayali - is this right ? Thanks for putting up with idiot questions !

Actually *edit* provided my water quality is still excellent and my Apistos aren't spawning like mad I'll pick one up in the next couple of days anyway. I'm not too worried about the exact classification - although I obviously want to know for sure. They're just in stunning condition.

Not quite sure MarkOrm, I've been trying to figure out what we get delivered to OZ as "orange spots" but not having much luck, Ill have a crack at another option later today.

I'll pop in tomorrow and get some pictures - I know the owners well and they won't mind. I almost picked one up today but held off as I like to do a change, test water and feed existing fish before I add a new one. Call me anal. I used run a quarentine tank as well but the quality of the water and fish where I get them from is second to none. I'm anal though about my plants and treating them for snails / ich etc. before they go in.

Call you "anal " MarkOrm- nah I'd call it caring for your tanks and fish.
As for foto's of the O-spot - same deal I need to get to the shop to get pix, but I'll try .
O-spots aren't that expensive in OZ they're just not my cuppa tea, I guess that's why I don't I have any

They're not dear over here either. My little L144 was £10 - these are on sale for £5.99, sexed and bigger. The antlers are already really well formed. Speaking of which considering that everything I read I wasn't expecting a lot of activity from my L144 during daylight - he or she is all over the shop. Brilliant to watch. I suspect that the reason the first batch of apisto eggs vanished is due to a certain catfish. Super fish - I can see why you're all so nuts. I've got some nice images of the L144 on bogwood - I'll be posting them tomorrow.

Like ive said before there are hundreds of different species of Ancistrus so its impossible to I.D without any snaps atol...

Lets get them crossed refd and see were we go from there...

You can see the orange spots on his fins better in this one. Colours have definitely improved since in the shop. Him and the L1444 seem inseperable.




The Macasterii have spawned (again !).

Yup that's the the critter( well looks damn like it ) that we get in OZ as O-spot,
and I'd go out on the limb in saying that fish looks real close to the fish you were trying to I.D Jagtazman--
the 1 I suggested to be L110- all though I don't think it's L110 any more care of the pic from deano.

Healthy looking fish though MarkOrm, just need to find him a little girly friend now.

Not the same as I have, mine has alot more spots on the body, this one does not appear to have any one the body only the fins or is it just me

It does appear to not have many spots on him, could also be a bad angle, this is why I won't buy them:
they look just like commons with a minor tweak to the colour but then you add $30-$40 on
top of the price of commons.
Maybe I'll still try to get pics from Aggies.
