| Introducing suspected baby pepp Yeah I know it's a crap pic , it's the best I can get so far There's 2 left (1 got jammed in between the fry saver), but I can't quite figure out if they are pepps or a spawn off of the 2 "little" commons that I've left in there- they're still not really black with white spots( only about 10mm) Still hoping. | Well they are getting blacker by the day so I have hopefully had a win . I'll get some pix when they are big enough to get some focus on the little fellows. J |

| A bit of a crap ending to this story, I ended up with 3 little swimmers- 1 got jammed in the fry saver, down to 2. The last 2 lived for about a week and a half and coloured up nice and black- so they were obviously "pepps" The biggest bummer was probably my fault as I tried not to clean the tank and shock the little guys, 1 fell off and died and about 5 days - same thing. But I am a glass half full kind of guy and I'm still stoked the pepps have had a look at spawning, I did a full tank clean yesterday so hopefully this gives them a bit more inspiration . Also could any one give me advice on the term "TDS" I think it's in reference to water quality. J |

| That sucks mate. lets hope it all goes well next time like you said they,ve showd willing so another spawn should be on the cards. TDS total dissolved solids. you can buy meters for readings most marine aquarists sell them. |

| Well that 2nd link is long read but a good one, the reason I mention TDS is I have read (form reputable sources) to get the TDS reasonably high for breeding pepps and then drop it quick to inspire them to spawn. Now without having to go spend a fortune on the TDS meter could any one else maybe explain in laymans terms how to tell if you have a high TDS and how much relativity this has to breeding pepps? From what I understand from the 2nd link "blackwater" has one of the lowest TDS of water conditions which is a pepps natural environment : so how does getting the TDS high and then lowering it help the pepps to spawn if they live and spawn naturally in a low TDS environment? This is why I'm not into checking water chemistry- if the water gets cloudy or smelly or to much crud in the tank I change the water and give the tank a clean. J |
