PostSubject: Unexplained Death   Tue Feb 02, 2010 8:50 pm

I came home from work eager to check how my new female (brought saturday) was doing, one of the males Homer has been uncharacteristically busy away from his normal log and cleaning sand out from a coconut cave. I was hoping to see that the female may had been with the male. Instead i found that she was dead. Initial reaction is that she hasnt been dead all that long as she was intact and was quite soft. She was fine when i checked before i went to bed at gone 2am this morning??

First thing i did was test the water, absolutely fine. Temperature ok, no problems with flow rate.

As far as i can see there are no signs of damage. The abdomen seemed fine, not over rounded and not concave. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear of your loss, it's heartbreaking when that happens.

Did you introduce her to the tank slowly? (Thinking difference in water perameters)

It could have been shock, age, a number of things to be honest.

Aye tis a damn shame when this sort of thing happens, I'm with Angi as for a cause - how did you acclimatise her?the standard float the bag and let her go or was it nice and slow adding a little bit of original tank water occasionally over the period of about 3/4 of an hour?
And possibly some excess harrasment from one of your other fish.
cheers J

I did the normal bag float for around 45 mins or so and periodically mixed in some tank water. I didnt see any evidence of harrasment but if for some reason it happend today during the day i wouldnt have been home to notice. I'm definately heading towards setting up a specific breeding tank which should eliminate any harrasment issues.
